Lara Croft

Lara Croft
Tomb Raider

Tomb raider starts off with our heroine hanging upside down in what looks like an Egyptian tomb and right off the bat we are treated to a very cool action sequence where Lara has to fight a robot. She maneuvers around the tomb firing at the robot. Soon Lara defeats the robot and we find out that it was simply a training room in her house and the robot was programmed by her friend.

We then get a quick scene introducing us to our villain and his plot to find a special triangle. For what yet we do not know. Lara’s butler then tries to get her interested in some projects but she’s not interested it is the anniversary of her father’s disappearance. She visits his memorial and then heads to bed while sleeping she’s has dreams of her and her father when she was younger and the story of an object called the triangle of light and something to do with the alignment of the planets.

Lara wakes up because of a ticking of a clock that wasn’t there before. She finds the clock and has Bryce her tech friend take it apart inside she finds a weird object inside. The next day Lara goes o see a family friend who is an expert on clocks and the object seems to behave like a clock. Lara mentions the triangle of light but the clock expert says he knows nothing of it. Later that night Lara gets a call from the clock expert who tells her that she has given her name to a man who may be able to help her in reality this man is the villain Mr. Powell.

Lara meets with Mr. Powell and discusses the clock but Powell acts as if he knows nothing. That night soldiers break into Lara's house she fights most of them off in a really cool action scene but they still manage to get her clock. Lara then receives a letter from her father arranged to arrive after the alignment starts. The letter tells Lara more about the triangle and her clock which is actually a key to finding the triangle. Her father wants her to find and destroy it before a secret group called the illuminati can use it for evil.

In Cambodia Lara runs into Powell and west. West is another tomb raider who Lara knows well. Inside the temple west figures out the first part of the puzzle to retrieving the first piece but Lara figures out the rest. After the piece is reviled Lara and west group fight for it while also fighting off stone guardians Lara ends up with the triangle but West's group ends up with the key. Lara and Powell then agree to work together to find the last part of the triangle which is in a temple in Siberia.

Once in the temple Lara and west find the last piece of the triangle but Powell can’t get it to work so he kills west forcing Lara to solve it to save West’s life. She does and then Powell and Lara fight after the completed triangle Lara wins and meets her dad in a crossing of time. Her dad tells her to destroy the triangle and forget about saving him. She then makes it back to reality just seconds before west was killed by Powell’s knife.

Lara reverses the knives path saving west then destroys the triangle returning time to normal. The temple starts falling apart and Lara gets ready to leave but Powell tells her that he killed her father and proves it by showing a locket of her mother. Lara and Powell fight and Lara kills Powell then escapes the temple. Back home Lara once again visits her father memorial then her butler brings her guns so she can fight the robot again. Now for the review.

When you think tomb raider what do you think? If you’re like most people you think action pistols puzzles and a well endowed woman. What does tomb raider the movie give us? Action pistols puzzles and a well endowed woman. While the plot is not directly related to any of the plots from the games it has the elements you would expect form a tomb raider story. Lara is after an object of great importance just like in the games, she’s solving puzzles and kicking ass while doing it. We are treated right off the bat to Lara in her traditional outfit from the games brandishing two pistols which are her signature weapons in the games.

It’s hard to comment on the amount of content because there were really no repeating characters in the games that made much difference besides her butler and he was in the movie but they changed him from a weak old man u lock in the freezer to a shotgun wielding badass a nice change in my opinion.

The writers and Angelina got Lara's attitude and mentality down to a tee. And the costumes fit the character as well. They included a rival tomb raider which is another constant in the games. Lara’s acrobatic ad fighting abilities are accurately portrayed and we get some great action scenes because of it. The only gripe I really have with the movie is there are a few unnecessary scenes where Lara’s just going somewhere on a motorcycle or a boat and there’s really no point but besides that I can’t really think of anything. Well with all that said let’s get to the ratings.

Overall I give the movie 8 out of 10 ridiculously short pairs of shorts. The one character that matters, was portrayed perfectly we got great action and even a few laughs.

The acting gets 8 out of 10. Angelina was great as Lara and we even got to see a pre bond Daniel Craig as her rival and the idea of using Angelina’s real father as Lara’s was great.

The plot gets 9 out of 10 while not being a remake of a game plot it was the kind of story you would expect from the games.

The content gets a 9 out of 10 the movie had just about everything you would expect from a tomb raider story and Lara was portrayed perfectly in my opinion.

Ok another one bites the dust and up next is the first resident evil movie. I’m not doing the final fantasy movie because it is cg not live action and I’d like to keep my reviews to live action.
